Unicorn Meta Zoo 7: Interview with Nicolas. Adding hints for including code in questions about scripting. In fact, the case for the Mac Pro for anyone but advanced video editors, 3D modelers, and heavy OpenCL users is now weaker than ever. That comment about OpenCL is an important one.
Review Apple MacBook Pro Retina 13 Late Notebook - rolodepos.tk Reviews
Apple had bet big that executing computational tasks on the GPU was going to be a big deal, but it never really took off on the Mac. Maybe that was due to OpenCL itself, or the high cost of entry to the Mac Pro, but the truth is that the CPU remained the heart of most workflows for high-end Mac users.
Apple today launched a new Repair Extension Program that addresses video issues on some late Mac Pro models, according to an internal notice obtained by MacRumors. Apple has determined that graphics cards in some late Mac Pros, manufactured between February 8, and April 11, , may cause distorted video, no video, system instability, freezing, restarts, shut downs, or may prevent system start up.
The Mac Pro Review (Late 2013)
Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider will repair eligible Mac Pro models affected by the video issues free of charge until May 30, Apple lists a turnaround time of about days. Even with the GPU issues, Apple failed to revise the computer in any way. Customers felt stranded without a path forward, and many opted for maxed-out Retina iMacs when their Mac Pros aged out. Then in April , news broke that Apple was working on a new Mac Pro.
John Gruber was there and wrote:. I think we designed ourselves into a bit of a thermal corner, if you will. We designed a system that we thought with the kind of GPUs that at the time we thought we needed, and that we thought we could well serve with a two GPU architecture… that that was the thermal limit we needed, or the thermal capacity we needed. Being able to put larger single GPUs required a different system architecture and more thermal capacity than that system was designed to accommodate. And so it became fairly difficult to adjust.

Trash Can With that aside, I love the fact that it is a very portable computer; I have taken it with me to and from locations and would place it in my backpack and carry it from my studio to home if I needed to continue working, but still wanted to spend time with my family that evening. Hey there little buddy. Ready to go on an adventure? The Obvious Problem with the Mac Pro. This sucks You can't just open the case and attach one because the computer isn't built that way.

That's why people hold onto their "Cheese Grater" Mac Pros from and before because you could and still can upgrade the parts. For me that's what a "Pro" computer should be about; if I want the latest GPU, I want to have a machine capable of allowing me to open the side panel and install it. However, that's only half the battle; To get to that point you have to create materials and light the scene. The benefits of using third party renderers like, Octane , Redshift or Cycles4D to name but three are that you have a Real-Time Preview which allows you to create and apply materials and light the scene while receiving real-time feedback because the GPU is doing all the heavy lifting.

He explained he had an eGPU, so that was it. I decided to investigate how I could create a similar setup. Plug and play I'm going to be honest, in the beginning it was a struggle. There were all kinds of hoops you needed to jump through and kexts to modify and the boxes that had a PCI-e to Thunderbolt 2 interface were too small to hold a full sized graphics card and were underpowered — we were hacking everything to make it work.
You would plug in and pray that it worked and most of the time for me at least it didn't. Then I found a community of likeminded people on eGPU.
There were other forums but it seemed like people there wanted to boast about finding solutions but never actually shared anything which was a shame and a waste of time. I'm a firm believe in sharing knowledge and so I post both my success and failure on eGPU. Inside the box
